Msgr. Thomas Cahalane came to the Diocese of Tucson from County Cork, Ireland as a missionary priest and was ordained as a priest for service in the Diocese of Tucson on June 8, 1963.
He served as Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale, Arizona from 1963 to 1967, the tri-community of San Manuel, Oracle and Mammoth from 1967 to 1969. He served as Associate Pastor at St. Augustine’s Cathedral from 1969 to 1971 and was a priest in residence at the Cathedral from 1971 to 1981.
Msgr. Cahalane holds a Master's in Education from the University of Arizona and served as Vicar of Education from 1975 to 1983. He is passionate about the ministry of the Baptized as servant leaders and the image of the Church as “the people of God.” He pioneered Alienated Catholics Anonymous a nationally recognized process for welcoming inactive Catholics back to the active practice of their faith.
Msgr. Tom has served as Pastor of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish from 1981 to the 2019. On the occasion of his fiftieth anniversary as a priest he published The Poet Within, a collection of poems written on many occasions throughout his life.
Msgr. Tom retired as Pastor of Our Mother of Sorrows June 2019.
