RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FEE EXPLANATION
OUR MOTHER OF SORROWS PARISH RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION FOR 2009-2010
CLASSES
SUNDAYS, 9:00-10:15
AM--GRADES PRE-K, KN,1,2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
PRE- K & KN-- Age appropriate stories, games, crafts, and music provide experiences for
children to explore God’s gifts of ourselves, creation, family and our Church
community.
GRADE 1--Introduces
first graders to God's Family and His Love. In order for children to make 1st
Communion in the second grade they must attend 1st grade classes
GRADE 2--God loves
us so much that He gave us His Son in Holy Eucharist.
In this year of preparation for First Holy Communion, there are three
parent gatherings that parents are required to attend.
GRADE 3--Children
are introduced to the workings of their Parish Family and the meaning of a
Church that is one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic.
GRADE 4--An
emphasis on conscience, the Commandments, and forgiveness leads to the
celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
There are special parent meetings throughout the year.
GRADE 5--Jesus is
present to us always, especially in the Sacraments, and He invites us to serve
one another and to live the virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love.
GRADE 6--Our roots
as Catholic Christians are found deep within the words of the Holy Bible.
TEEN SACRAMENT-
Students in grades 7 through 12 meet the
second Sunday of the month to help them prepare for the sacraments of
Reconciliation and 1st Communion.
SUNDAYS, 10:30-11:45 AM--WELCOMING CHILDREN TO THE CHURCH,
SPECIAL ED.,
BILINGUAL PROGRAM,
and JUNIOR HIGH & HIGH SCHOOL CONFIRMATION PREPARATION
W. C. C.--Young people in grades 2 through 6 who have
never had formal religious education, begin their formal journey in Faith for
the first year. During the second
year of instruction, Sacraments are celebrated.
Parents are required to attend scheduled meetings throughout the school
year.
CHILDREN/YOUTH WITH SPECIAL
NEEDS--Young people, ages 4-18, who are
mentally/and or physically challenged are welcome for a special encounter with
God and preparation for Sacraments.
JUNIOR HIGH CONFIRMATION--Students will be using the Sadlier series
We Live Our Faith. During the two year program students will be using the
texts As Members of the Church and As Disciples of Christ to assist them in
their faith journey toward Confirmation.
Service projects, retreats, and parent gatherings are some of the
requirements for Confirmation candidates and their parents.
HIGH SCHOOL CONFIRMATION—Active participation in class, service
projects, and retreats are some of the requirements. Participation in Youth
Group is strongly encouraged. Please contact Michelle Benzenhoefer, 305-3615,
for additional information about High School Confirmation.
BILINGUAL PROGRAM--A sacrament preparation program for
children, in grades 1-6, whose primary
language is Spanish. During
the second year of instruction, Sacraments are celebrated.
Registration:
Open Registration for families needing to register for Religious Education
Classes will take place after all Masses on August 22/23 and 29/30 in the Parish
Hall.
1st Day of Class:
Classes for the 2009—2010 school year begin September 13th. Parents are required
to bring their children to the Parish Hall for the 1st Day of Class and stay for
the meeting. You will also receive a class schedule at that time.

Parents of school age children wanting to
have their child baptized should call Laura Stehle at the Parish Office,
