Deacon Charles Whalen was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1937 and says one of his great accomplishments “was convincing Lorraine Ann to marry me”. He has two daughters, two sons and three stepsons.
Deacon Charles attended Catholic grammar school (Dominican) & Catholic High School (Marianist-Chaminade), and had it not been for Chaminade High School, he would not be a deacon. He went on to attend New York State University in Oyster Bay, and St. Bernard’s Graduate School of Theology for diaconate formation. He was ordained in 1991 by Bishop Howard Hubbard in Albany, New York and served there for 4 yrs. after which he transferred to the Diocese of Palm Beach in Florida and was assigned to the Cathedral for 10 yrs.
In 2006, he transferred to the Diocese of Tucson and was assigned to Our Mother of Sorrows Parish where he is still an active deacon.
“Being a deacon has been one of the great blessings in my life.”
